The museum, as the ultimate symbol of cultural power, has, without doubt, a strong need to develop a strong image. The volume of the new institute gradually develops itself, as a constant mutant body. A type of architectural virus, using the existing building as host. The context is marked by a mix of events and apparent contradictions between the abstract geometry of modernism and a non-geometric and apparently uncontrolled and chaotic city, the result of natural evolution.
The rules of evolution of this virus have as a reference key Baroque movement, culturally present in the history of Antwerp. Through its theatrical and sculptural component, its intensity and emotion, rhythm and complexity, create the basis for metastasis from VIRUS BAROQUE.
The interior is designed as a metaphor of the creative process, the constant ups and downs, doubts, tensions, emotions connected with this part of the process of creating architecture, through the use of a sensory architecture, using purely architectural elements, light, proportion, materiality, rhythm, smell, sound ...
