RETHINKING THE WINDMILL gavião . portugal
national competition . completed
2011

The world has seen, with all that it has positive and negative, the rise of man against nature, step by step this man advances his quest of knowledge, technology and progress, moving away more of their origins. We believe that progress is important and indispensable, but we also believe that if we lose our roots, the world quickly becomes a barren and desolate. A society without roots would be like if we forgot how we got there, importing only what has been achieved...

Right now, about 50% of the population lives in cities, the result of uncontrolled development. Portugal is no exception, there was an urban exodus of large proportions, transforming much of the country in areas nearly empty, and without new generations to continue the legacy that until there was passed from generation to generation.

Such rural knowledge, both in terms of nature, and in terms of agriculture and society is essential for the formation of a human being conscious and concerned with the world. This program was based on local populations as an essential element and the bearer of a very strong and empirical knowledge that can enrich the knowledge at various levels of new generations.
